Chittagong - Dhaka highway in Bangladesh has been facing serious heavy traffic congestion causing substantial delays for import and export cargoes.

Container trucks takes 24-26 hours to pass through the highway from Chittagong to Dhaka and vice versa instead of usual 8-9 hours and the congestion once stretched as long as 114 kilometers in the worst situation.

The current traffic jam has been attributable to the ongoing construction of a railway overpass by a local government, which has made one of the four lanes of the highway closed. Industry sources said that in some cases, export containers miss the CY cutoffs and cargo backlog on the docks is deteriorating.
