U.S. research firm Descartes DataMyne unveiled on March 9 that containers from 10 Asian countries and regions to the U.S. surged 20% from a year earlier to 1,311,415 TEUs in February, enjoying a year-on-year improvement for 12 months in a row and setting a new single-month record.

According to statistics compiled with Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill of lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP), containers from China soared 31.8% to 838,136 TEUs, holding the largest share of the pie and registering a year-on-year increase for the 12th consecutive month. Coming in fifth place, those from Vietnam jumped 61.1% to 61,501 TEUs, which also marked a year-on-year rise for 12 months running.

On the other hand, DataMyne indicated that exports from South Korea, fining in second, decreased 0.3% to 121,153 TEUs. Ranked third place were those from Taiwan, which fell 6.9% to 64,618 TEUs, suffering a year-on-year decline for 10 straight months. The fourth leading exporter was Hong Kong, which shipped 63,313 TEUs, down 3%. Coming in six, Hong Kong exported 47,162 TEUs, down 14.6%, and in seventh, Japan exported 44,794 TEUs, down 1.9%.
