A total of 1,366,979 TEUs of containers were moved to the U.S. from 10 countries and regions in Asia in November, which increased 10.7% year on year, according to a report recently unveiled by American research firm Descartes DataMyne. In the 11 months from January, 14,310,911 TEUs were carried on the same eastbound trade routes. Record highs were registered for both November and the January-November months.

Looking at the November container movement by origin, the report, compiled from Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill of lading (b/l) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP), indicated that containers from China surged 12.2% to 842,324 TEUs, holding the largest share of 62% of the pie. Ranked second were those from South Korea, which rose 9.2% to 138,760 TEUs. Third place were taken by shipments from Taiwan, but quantitatively, they plunged 12.3% to 74,117 TEUs. Exports from Vietnam jumped 50.7% to 68,099 TEUs, finishing in fourth. At the bottom of the top-five list were those from Hong Kong, which improved 0.1% to 65,125 TEUs. Exports from Japan hiked 5.8% to 46,520 TEUs, helping the economy come in seventh place.
