The volume of containerized shipments traded between South Korea and China increased 6.14% year on year to 1,423,442 TEUs in the first half (January-June) of this year. The growth was obtained despite several adverse factors, which included the retaliatory actions that China had taken against the installation of the U.S.’ Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in South Korea. In breakdown, local cargo increased 7.24% to 1,342,424 TEUs; on the other hand, feeder cargo fell 9.25% to 81,018 TEUs.
