Major shipping companies moved a total of 1.07 TEUs of containers in May among 13 countries and regions in Asia, which declined 1.4% from a year earlier and incurred a year-on-year contraction for the fifth consecutive month. In breakdown, dry cargo decreased 1.7% to 1.005 million TEUs, but reefer cargo improved 4.1% to 65,000 TEUs. Imports to and exports from Japan both diminished, with the former going down 8.6% to 113,000 TEUs and the latter, down 2.1% to 186,000 TEUs.
