The freight rate index for trans-Pacific services bound for the west coast of and interior point intermodal (IPI) destinations in North America fell by 7.47 points from a month earlier to 72.69 points in March, suffering the first month-on-month decline in two months, according to the TSA Revenue Index unveiled by Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (TSA). From a year earlier, however, the index improved by 1.56 points.
The TSA Revenue Index, which regards June 2008 as the baseline month with a value of 100 points, added the index for services destined to the east coast of North America and the U.S. Gulf Coast decreased by 4.05 points to 69.23 points in March, incurring a month-on-month contraction for two months in a row. The index fell below the 70-point line for the first time since December last year, although it increased by 0.24 points from the corresponding month of 2016.
The latest indexes showed that fluctuations in container movement before and after the Lunar New year had impacts on the three shipping markets.
