The Japan Maritime Center (JMC) announced on Jan. 17 that 968,511 tons of containers were transported outbound from Japan to China in November 2016, which rose 10.5% from a year earlier and enjoyed the first year-on-year improvement in two months. In terms of value, they swelled 6.3% to \598.8 billion, which was the first year-on-year growth in nine months.

Looking at imports from China to Japan, meanwhile, they amounted to 1,922,481 tons, increasing 5.5% year on year and registering the first growth from a year earlier in three months. On a yen scale, in contrast, they plunged 11.5% to \1.051 trillion, suffering a year-on-year decrease for the eights consecutive month.

In the first 11 months (January-November), containers from Japan to China went down 1.5% to 10,124,715 tons, and those from China to Japan, down 0.6% to 19,550,945 tons.
