The accumulated volume of local and feeder containerized shipments moved between South Korea and China in the first nine months (January-September) of this month increased 3.86% from a year earlier to 2,053,682 TEUs, according to the Yellow Sea Liners Committee (YSLC).
Container movement between the two Asian economies decreased a minute 0.6% year on year in the first quarter (January-March), but came back to improve 4% in the second quarter (April-June) and gained momentum in the third quarter (July-September), growing 8%.
Looking at the nine-month total more precisely, local cargo swelled 5.51% to 1,918,164 TEUs, but feeder cargo plunged 15% to 135,518 TEUs.
By route, containers from South Korea to China accounted for 813,775 TEUs. Local cargo rose 1.8% to 750,000 TEUs, but feeder cargo diminished 10.9% to 56,495 TEUs. From China to South Korea, meanwhile, 1,239,907 TEUs were carried, which went up 6%. Local cargo inflated 8% to 1,160,884 TEUs, but feeder cargo plummeted 18% to 79,023 TEUs.
