Ship congestion is escalating at the Thai ports of Bangkok and Laem Chabang. On May 2, two gantry cranes at one of the seven berths at the former port, which is managed by the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), were damaged and have since been out of operation. Cargo loading and unloading efficiency has, as such, deteriorated, as repair work is scheduled to continue until June 15, urging incoming vessels to wait until the berth is available, or for four to five days. For this reason, containerized shipments bound for Bangkok are now discharged at Laem Chabang, generating a similar situation as the former port.
