Combined container throughput at trade ports in South Korea remained nearly unchanged from a year earlier in the first quarter (January-March) of this year, growing a minute 0.2% from 6.314 million TEUs to 6.329 million TEUs, according to the nation’s Ministry of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
By port, Busan exported and imported a total of 2.324 million TEUs, increasing 0.3%, but transshipment (T/S) containers decreased 2.2% to 2.477 million TEUs. As such, the overall volume of containers handled at the port fell 1% to 4.801 million TEUs. Kwangyang processed 576,000 TEUs, which went up 2.5%, while Inchon was responsible for 576,000 TEUs, which rose 6.9%.
