Containerized shipments moved in 2015 by car ferry services between South Korea and China increased 3.4% year on year to 558,195 TEUs, according to a report compiled by an association for car ferry services between the two Asian economies. However, the total volume is estimated to have actually grown negatively, as the unveiled volume contained containers carried between Incheon and Shanghai on ocean containerships.

Throughput was weak across the board. By route, 50,963 TEUs were transported between Incheon and Weihai, which went down 1.1%; 50,627 TEUs between Incheon and Qingdao, down 15.6%; 34,884 TEUs between Incheon and Yantai, down 13.7% and 43,118TEUs between Incheon and Lianyungang, down 5.8%.

Container trade between South Korea and China remained sluggish earlier this year. In the first two months (January-February), 78,072 TEUs were handled between the nations, which declined 3.4% from a year earlier.

By route, for example, 6,827 TEUs were carried between Incheon and Qingdao, going down 9.2%; 6,151 TEUs between Incheon and Weihai, down 13.7% and 4,820 TEUs between Incheon and Yantai, down 16.7%.
