The Port of Kobe handled 2.705 million TEUs of containers in 2015 (January-December), which increased 3.4% from the previous year. The total throughput was highest since 1995, when the area was devastated by the Great Hanshin Earthquake, and second highest in all time, after the 2.92 million TEUs registered in 1994.

Oceangoing containers grew 3% to 2.113 million TEUs, which was also greatest since 1995. They swelled in both directions, with exports going up 2.8% to 1.131 million TEUS imports, up 3.3% to 982,000 TEUs.

The volume of domestic containers, meanwhile, hiked 4.7% to 592,000 TEUs, which was also an all-time high.
