A new dedicated container train service has been launched from Chennai Port and Marigold Inland Container Depot, Bengaluru in India, the first of this kind operated by a public business. The first train departed from Jawahar Dock in Chennai on Monday.

Gurgaon-based Distribution Logistics Infrastructure Private Ltd. (DLI) provides two trains a week linking Chennai to Bengaluru at the initial stage and plans to increase the frequency on demand. Each train carries 70 TEUs of import cargo.

The Chennai – Bengaluru container train service had been provided exclusively by state-run CONCOR. DLI’s new service is to end CONCOR’s dominance in the market.
