The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has initiated a six billion Baht (US$167.2 million) project to expand container handling capacity and develop a container transfer system by rail at Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri.
In the first stage, the PAT will develop a container terminal investing 1.8-billion Baht (US$50.15 million). After completion in 2018, Laem Chabang Port will have additional container capacity of 300,000 TEUs per annum. The project will also spend 2.9 billion baht (US$80.76 million) to build a new rail facility of 600 hectares with six rail-mounted container cranes.
