Sixty-four ports in Japan handled a total of 17,924,843 TEUs of international seaborne containers in 2014, which grew 0.9% from the previous year, according to a report compiled by the Institute for Advanced Port Transportation of Japan. The Big Five-Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe-were responsible for 13,793,234 TEUs, enjoying a combined share of 77%. As for loaded containers, 5,690,168 TEUs were exported from the 64 ports, which increased 1.4%, while imports rose 0.1% to 8,378,773 TEUs.
