Outbound containers from Japan to China waned 2.6% from a year earlier to 956,907 tons in May, suffering the first year-on-year decrease in two months, according to a report released on July 15 by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). They declined on a value scale as well, going down 0.2% to \587.8 billion. In the first five months, they decreased 1.5% to 4,782,098 tons on a volume basis, but increased 2.2% in terms of value.

Meanwhile, the JMC added that inbound containers from China to Japan plunged 12.6% to 1,727,072 tons in May, incurring a year-on-year contraction for three months in a row. On a value basis, they sank 3.2% to \1.069 trillion. From January to May, they went down 9.2% to 8,847,944 tons quantitatively, but up 1.6% in value terms.
