Japan exported a total of 1,283,581 secondhand motor vehicles last year, according to country-by-country statistics compiled by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA). The total grew 10.4% from the previous year, enjoying a year-on-year improvement for the fifth consecutive year, or since 2009. It was the third-highest number—after those in 2008 and 2007—since the association began unveiling statistics in 2001.

In 2014, Myanmar was the most powerful buyer of used automobiles from Japan, overtaking Russia, the leading destination in 2013. Exports to the Southeast Asian economy exceeded 160,000 units, swelling 19.1% from a year earlier. Those to New Zealand and Pakistan also increased steadily.

Among the top 30, exports to Georgia registered the highest growth, skyrocketing 112.8% year on year. Notable rises were also marked for those to Namibia and Singapore. On the other hand, those to Russia plunged 23.5% on year.
