Ports in South Korea processed a total of 2.04 million TEUs of containers in August, which grew 5.2% year on year from 1.94 million TEUs, according to a report released by the nation’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. In breakdown, exports and imports accounted for 1.203 million TEUs, going up 3.3%; transshipment (T/S) containers, 823,000 TEUs, up 7.5% and coastal cargo, 1,500 TEUs, up 54.9%.

By port, Busan was responsible for 1.531 million TEUs, which increased 5.5%. Export and import containers amounted to 751,000 TEUs, up 2.3%, and T/S containers, 779,900 TEUs, up 8.7%. Container throughput remained nearly unchanged at Kwangyang, to and from which 199,000 TEUs were moved, up 0.3%. T/S cargo accounted for 39,000 TEUs, down 13.9%. In contrast, container movement to and from Inchon was much more favorable thanks to improvements in those to and from China and Southeast Asian nations, which surged 11.5% to 203,000 TEUs.
