The traditional pattern of mid-summer stagnation kicked in for the world's top three container ports in July.

Container throughput at Shanghai, the world biggest container port, went up by only 2.8 percent year on year to 3.06 million TEUs in July while box cargo at Singapore declined slightly by 0.3% on a year-on-year comparison. Throughput at Hong Kong has kept the 1.9-million TEU level for the fourth straight month, handling1.98 million TEUs, just a 1.6% gain from the previous year’s 1.95 million TEUs.

For the first seven months, the volume in Shanghai has accumulated to 20.33 million TEUs, representing a 5.3% increase over the same period in 2013. Singapore handled a total throughput of 19.45 million TEUs, up 3.6% from a year earlier and Hong Kong processed 13.13 million TEUs, up 3.3% year on year.
