The preliminary volume of international and domestic containers handled at the Port of Kobe in January 2013 remained nearly unchanged from a year earlier, going down a minute 0.6% to 2.552 million TEUs. Oceangoing shipments accounted for 2.048 million TEUs, down 1.1%, consisting of 1.097 million TEUs of exports, down 1.9%, and 950,000 TEUs of imports, down 0.2%.

On a monthly scale, container throughput at the port made a positive turn in December, improving 4.7% year on year to 220,000 TEUs. Exports and imports amounted to 176,600 TEUs in total, going up 5.1%, with the former totaling 95,000 TEUs, up 2.5%, and the latter, 82,000 TEUs, up 8.4%.
