Shenzhen port is to overtake Hong Kong by container throughput in 2013 and believed certain to become the world's third busiest container port.
Container traffic through Shenzhen totaled 21.271 million TEUs in the first 11 months of the year, while Hong Kong handled 20.358 million TEUs during the period, according to statistics released by the Transport Commission of Shenzhen Municipality.
Shenzhen port is expected to continue positive growth in volume in December while Hong Kong is projected to suffer a 3.7% decline in its box throughput for the entire 2013.
