India's 12 major ports handled a total of 4.34 million TEUs or 66.631 million tons in first half of fiscal 2013/14, representing a decline of 4.56% and 5.1%, respectively, according to the Indian Ports Association (IPA).

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the busiest container port in India, posted throughput of 2.37 million TEUs, shrinking by 3.0% due to the dockworkers' strike at Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT).

Volume at Chennai Port also fell by 4% year on year to 881,000TEUs while the third largest container port Kolkata handled 341,000 TEUs, down 3.9% from the same period last year.
