Chinese ports handled 16,134,700 TEUs of containerized shipments in May 2013, increasing 6.7% year on year, according to the country’s Ministry of Transport.

Throughput was favorable at both coastal and inland river ports, which processed 14,409,000 TEUs, going up 6.0%, and 1,725,700 TEUs, up 8.5%, respectively.

In the first five months, the total reached 75,264,900 TEUs, growing 8.2% from a year earlier. Coastal and inland river ports both registered year-on-year increases, handling 67,187,100 TEUs, up 7.9% and 1,725,700 TEUs, up 10.2%, respectively.
