The Port of Yokohama handled 253,893 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in March, up 6.8% year on year, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the city of Yokohama's Port and Harbor Bureau.

Exports accounted for 139,322 TEUs, up 6.9%, and imports, 114,572 TEUs, up 6.6%. Domestic containers numbered 31,797 TEUs, up 9%, for a total throughput of 285,690 TEUs, up 7%.

In the first three months, exports and imports aggregated 696,843 TEUs, up 8.2%, with the former coming to 365,580 TEUs, up 5.3%, and the latter, 331,264 TEUs, up 11.6%. Domestic containers amounted to 90,701 TEUs, up 11%, for a total of 787,544 TEUs, up 8.5%.
