The Port of Kobe handled 2.567 million TEUs of international and domestic containerized shipments in 2012, decreasing a slight 2.2% year on year, according to the city of Kobe’s Port and Urban Projects Bureau.

As for international shipments, exports went down 1% to 1.118 million TEUs and imports, down 1.6% to 953,000 TEUs for a total of 2.07 million TEUs, which fell 1.3%.

Meanwhile, domestic containers totaled 497,000 TEUs, waning 6.1%, of which 215,000 TEUs were shipped from Kobe, decreasing 7.1%, and 282,000 TEUs to the port, falling 5.4%.

The Port and Urban Projects Bureau, which gathered preliminary statistics on container throughput at the Port of Kobe on March 29, said the port processed 210,000 TEUs of containers in the single month of December 2012, which waned 3.6% from a year earlier.

Exports diminished 6% to 92,000 TEUs, and imports, 2.8% to 76,000 TEUs for a total of 168,000 TEUs, which shrank 4.6%.

As for domestic cargoes, which amounted to 42,500 TEUs, rising 0.6%, 18,700 million TEUs were transported from Kobe, growing 6.3%, and 24,000 TEUs to the port, declining 3.5%.

In the first 11 months of 2012, international containers totaled 1.9 million TEUs, falling 1% from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the total of international and domestic shipments was 2.357 million TEUs, decreasing 2.1%, according to the same statistics.
