China's export container transport demand continued to rise in the week ended January 11. The China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) for the week was 1122.36 points, up 1.1% from the previous week while the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) rose 7.3% week on week to 1232.35 points, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

As Chinese exporters have accelerated shipments pace in preparation for the coming Spring Festival peak season, CCFI for the Asia to Europe trade increased 2.0% from the previous week to 1479.61. The index for the trade from Asia to the Mediterranean showed a more positive increase of 5.6%, to 1391.24 points.

By the same token, demand also kept upward trend last week on the transpacific trades. Spot rates from Shanghai to U.S. West and U.S. East Coast ports were $2,341 per FEU and $3,525 per FEU, up 5.4% and 5.0%, respectively.

On the trade from China to Japan, shipping lines saw a slight decline in shipments, but their space reduction almost offset the negative impact on the trade with an average space utilization being maintained at about 65%. CCFI for the trade stood at 763.09 points, a slight decrease of 1.6% from the previous week.
