In October 2012, exports of containerized shipments from Japan to China increased 0.3% from a year earlier to 1,099,119 tons, marking the first year-on-year improvement in four months, according to a report released recently by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC).
The JMC, which compiled the report from trade statistics announced by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), added they improved 13% from a month earlier.
In terms of value, however, they were not brisk at all, plunging 11.1% to \561 billion.
In the first 10 months (January-October), they decreased 1.3% from the corresponding period of 2011.
Meanwhile, imports of containers from China to Japan went down 0.3% from October 2011 to 1,936,546 tons, which increased 8.4% from September 2012.
They were favorable on a value basis as well, rising 1% to \963.9 billion.
