A total of 15,082,200 TEUs of containerized shipments were handled at ports in China in October 2012, according to a report compiled by the nation’s Ministry of Transport.

The total was up 8.9% from a year earlier (from 13,864,300 TEUs) but down 5% from a month earlier.

Coastal ports were responsible for 13,368,500 TEUs, going up 7.7% year on year from 12,417,600 TEUs, and inland river ports, 1,713,700 TEUs, up 18.4% from 1,446,800 TEUs.

In the first 10 months (January-October), 146,101,900 TEUs were moved to and from Chinese ports, increasing 8.1% from a year earlier.

Throughput was 130,369,700 TEUs at coastal ports, growing 7.7%, and 15,732,200 TEUs at inland river ports, 11.4%.
