The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)’s Ports and Harbors Bureau will conduct a feasibility study in Myanmar in the middle of April 2012.

The MLIT hopes to carry out port- and harbor-related projects across the Southeast Asian nation, intending to develop strategies by the end of February 2013 to help Japanese enterprises participate in the projects.

The feasibility study will be carried out at five cities and ports?Dawei, Yangon (including Thilawa Port), Kyaukpyu Port, Mawlamyine Port and an inland port?to find out what development plans and projects are possible.

From data obtained at the cities and ports, the MLIT will find ways to overcome challenges in advancing projects to develop ports and harbors as well as hinterlands.

The ministry will then decide to focus on around two projects, for which it will formulate specific development plans.
