Containerized shipments handled by major shipping lines on the intra-Asia trade increased to 1.076 million TEUs in November 2010, which represented a growth of 4.5% from the 1.03 million TEUs moved in November 2009.
They improved by approximately 55,000 TEUs from October 2010, when they suffered a year-on-year decline.
Exports from Japan to 11 other Asian countries and regions went down 8.8% to 168,000 TEUs, incurring a decrease from a year earlier for the second consecutive month.
On the other hand, imports to Japan came back to rise 1.7% to 203,000 TEUs.
On an accumulated scale, container movement among the 12 Asian economies swelled to 11.526 million TEUs from January to November 2010, an increase of 9.3% from the 10.548 million TEUs moved in the corresponding 11 months of 2009.
Japan exported 2.03 million TEUs, up 6.7% and imported 2.205 million TEUs, up 5.8%.
