Jamaica recently has notified the World Trade Organization of its intent to adopt the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15) on wooden packaging materials used for international trade and has drafted the measures for the administration of imported non-compliant wood packaging material. The new regime will be effective January 1, 2011.

Under the ISPM No. 15 regime, all wood packaging materials bound for Jamaica including pallets, crates and dunnages will be required that they be treated with heat or fumigated with methyl bromide and marked with a seal of compliance.
