Container shipments moving between ten Asian countries and territories (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia) excluding mainland China and South Korea amounted to 442,000TEUs in January 2010, representing a strong 32.1% increase compared with 334,000 TEUs in the same month in 2009, due to a recovery in production and expansion of domestic demands in Asian countries and a rebound from the slump early last year.
Exports from Japan to the Asian nations rapidly recovered with a 48.2% increase on volume of 104,000 TEUs while imports from those countries showed a modest year-on-year increase of 9.5% at 97,000 TEUs in January.
