The customs cooperation agreement between Japan and the Netherlands took effect today. For Japan, the Netherlands is the 19th partner of this sort of the treaty.
The Agreement Regarding Mutual Administrative Assistance and Cooperation in Customs Matters aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries against customs offenses including illegal cross-border trafficking in weapons, explosives and chemical, biological and nuclear substances as well as in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors constitutes a danger to society, and, upon request, mutually provide information for assuring the accurate assessment of customs duties and other taxes collected at importation or exportation.
The like agreement between the EU and Japan took effect in 2008 but the Netherlands is the first for Japan among the individual EU nations.
