Container trade between Japan and China fell 7.8% year on year to 2,789,950 TEUs in 2009, of which outbound volume from Japan declined a slight 1.7% to 942,453 TEUs while inbound volume from China to Japan slumped 10.7% from a year earlier to 1,847,497 TEUs, according to statistics released by the Shipping Conference and General Administration (SCAGA).
