The Australian government is mulling over implementing biosecurity levies on all import containers into Australia from July 1, 2019.

The new levies aim to enhance Australia's animal and plant health status, through pest and disease preparedness, prevention, emergency response and management and will be used for biosecurity measures such as faster detection.

The charge, if introduced, will be AUD 10 per incoming 20' ocean container and AUD 5 per air container.
