With the berthing of COSCO Shipping Lines' 13,386-TEU ''COSCO France'' on May 11, full automatic container terminal operations have been commissioned at Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal (QQCTN).
The terminal is located in the former Bay Port with 660 meters of berth wall and the depth of 784 meters, and equipped with seven unmanned ship-to-shore cranes, 38 automated stacking cranes and 38 battery-powered automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Its annual container handling capacity is 5.2 million TEUs.
At present two full automation terminals are operational. Only nine remote controllers control the traditional dock work of more than and 60, thus manpower has been cut by about 85%, the operational efficiency has been improved by about 30%.
