Trade ports in South Korea processed a total of 119.32 million tons of shipments in April, according to an announcement made recently by the country’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, which added the total decreased 1.2% from a year earlier. Container throughput was unfavorably, too, declining 2.5% to 2.148 million TEUs.

Looking at container movement to and from South Korea by port, Busan was responsible for 1.583 million TEUs, which fell 5.2%. In breakdown, exports and imports, and transshipment (T/S) containers both waned, with the former going down 3% to 794,000 TEUs and the latter, down 7.2% to 789,000 TEUs.

Container lifting sank 2.6% to 210,000 TEUs at Kwangyang, where export and import cargo abated 4.9% to 149,000 TEUs, but T/S cargo surged 26.7% to 61,000 TEUs.

Incheon handled 223,000 TEUs of containers, which rose 9.5%. Exports and imports soared 12.3% to 118,919 TEUs, holding a majority share 53.3% of the total throughput. Export containers accounted for 102,102 TEUs, growing 10.6%. Meanwhile, T/S containers totaled 1,320 TEUs.
