The Japan Maritime Center (JMC) announced on May 17 that 1,155,644 tons of containerized shipments were exported from Japan to China in March, which surged 12.7% year on year. They increased notably on a value scale as well, soaring 19.2% to \751.3 billion.

Imports from China to Japan, meanwhile, expand a more remarkable 13.5% to 2,053,226 tons. In terms of value, the improved 9.3% to \1.165 trillion, marking the first year-on-year growth in two months.

According to indices unveiled by Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd., the freight rate for shipments from Yokohama to Shanghai was US$370 per TEU in March, rising 8.8% and enjoying a year-on-year hike for 10 months in a row. Meanwhile, the fare for services from Shanghai to Yokohama was $610 per TEU, which remained unchanged from a year earlier.
