Container exports from Japan to China decreased 7.1% from a year earlier to 803,022 tons in September, suffering a year-on-year decline for the third consecutive month, according to a report unveiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). On a Japanese-yen basis, they fell 6.4% to \539.9 billion.

In the first nine months (January-September), Japan’s exports to China waned 1.9% in terms of tonnage, but in value, they improved 0.2%.

As for imports of containerized shipments from China to Japan, meanwhile, the JMC report, which had been compiled from trade statistics released by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), added that they diminished 4.4% to 1,807,441 tons in September. On a value scale, in contrast, they grew 2.1% to \1.275 trillion.

From January to September, container imports from China to Japan went down 7.1% quantitatively but up 3.7% in value terms.
