The accumulated volume of containerized shipments moved to and from the Port of Kobe in the first five months (January-May) this year increased 4.1% year on year to 1.123 million TEUs, remaining on an upward trend.

As for foreign-trade containers, exports went up 3% to 468,000 TEUs and imports, up 3.9% to 415,000 TEUs for a total of 883,000 TEUs, up 3.4%. Domestic cargo rose 6.6% to 240,000 TEUs.

In May alone, exports improved 1.1% from a year earlier to 98,000 TEUs, while imports took an upturn, growing 3.3% to 87,000 TEUs. Oceangoing shipments totaled 185,000 TEUs, which hiked 2.1%.On the other hand, domestic containers fell 3.8% to 44,000 TEUs, taking a downward turn from the previous month, when they enjoyed a double-digit improvement. The total of international and domestic cargo was 230,000 TEUs, increasing 0.9%.
