Trade ports in China processed a total of 162.151 million TEUs of containers in the first nine months (January-September) of this year, which improved 3.5% year on year, according to a preliminary report released by the economy’s Ministry of Transport. Coastal ports were responsible for 144.929 million TEUs, which went up 3.3%, while the remaining 17.222 million TEUs were moved to and from inland river ports, up 5%.

Looking at major ports, Shenzhen and Lianyungang incurred negative growth, handling 17.94 million TEUs, down 1.1%, and 3.569 million TEUs, down 3.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, Tianjin scored the highest increase, processing 4.576 million TEUs, up 6%, while throughput only increased weakly at other ports in general.
