Container throughput at the port of Singapore has recorded a slight increase of 0.8% that was driven by increases of 3.1% in container volumes and 39.8% in non-oil bulk. Overall in August 2016 Asian port handled 49.4 million tons of cargo compared to 49.0 million tons in August last year.

In container traffic sector 28.2 million tons were scored with a handling of containers amounted to 2,682,300 TEUs, up 6.2% to 2.682 million TEUs. This represents an increase for the second month in a row.

In the first eight months, container volumes amounted to 20.435 million TEUs, down 3.1% from the same period last year.
