Trade ports in South Korea processed a total of 117.69 million tons of shipments in August, growing 1.6% from a year earlier, according to the nation’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Container throughput increased 2.2% to 2.127 million TEUs in total—at a time when the global trade was stagnant—thanks to improvements in transshipment (T/S) container lifting at Busan and other ports.

By port, Busan handled 1.634 million TEUs, rising 4.4%. Exports and imports totaled 779,000 TEUs, swelling 1.2%, while T/S containers climbed 7.4% to a record high of 855,000 TEUs.

On the other hand, throughput plunged 13.2% to 173,000 TEUs at Kwangyang. Outbound and inbound containers accounted for 135,000 TEUs, falling 15.7%, and T/S container were also dull, going down 3% to 38,000 TEUs.

Containers to and from Inchon declined 1.2% to 200,000 TEUs, as decreased were registered in both exports and imports.
