Consolidated export cargoes that were transported by air from Japan in February this year surged 42.1% compared to the same period last year to 99,448 tons due to huge increases in transpacific air cargo volume being caused by a modal shift from ocean to air as supply chains have been disrupted on the U.S. West Coast ports, according to the statistics compiled by the Japan Aircargo Forwarders' Association (JAFA).

The weight of the consolidated exports in February represented the 17th consecutive year-on-year increase.

By region, the consolidated weight of airborne export cargoes in February tripled to 43,132 tons from the previous year's 14,364 tons for TC1 (Americas), rose 5.3%% to 14,055 tons for TC2 (Europe, Middle/Near East and Africa) and slipped slightly by 0.1% to 42,260 tons for TC3 (Asia and Australia).
