2014 has turned out to be a pretty good year for the air cargo industry and e-AWB (air waybill) as well since the International Transport Association (IATA)'s 2014 year-end e-AWB penetration target of 22% has been cleared. In December 2014, e-AWB penetration reached a record high of 24.9%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points from November.

Overall, the industry has witnessed steady positive growth in 2014. A growing number of joint industry initiatives were launched around the world, which enabled significant growth across all regions including Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific, North Asia, Americas, and Europe.e-AWB penetration increased 12.4% in December 2014 from 12.5% for the same period in 2013, averaging 1% increase every month.

Top five airlines in order of e-AWB volume rankings are Cathay Pacific, Emirates, SIA Cargo, IAG-British Airways and Korean Air. Top five freight forwarders in order of e-AWB volume rankings are DHL Global Forwarding, Schenker, Expeditors, Panalpina and UPS.

As for Japanese airlines, All Nippon Airways (ANA) is ranked 40th in terms of e-AWB volume, followed by Japan Airlines (JAL) 42nd and Nippon Cargo Air (NCA) 44th. Among Japanese freight forwarders, Kintetsu World Express leads at the 12th position in the e-AWB volume rankings, followed by Nippon Express at 13th, Yusen Logistics at 15th and Hankyu Hanshin Express at 26th.
