Carriers Update Situations in Chilean Ports
All Chilean ports, within the most affected areas, are still evaluating their technical and operational capabilities with a view to resume operations as soon as possible, according to Chilean national line CCNI.
CCNI said it is working diligently to evaluate the situation in order to resume operations with the affected ports.
- In the north, all ports are operational and working without problems.
- In the central zone, ports are expected to be fully operational within the next 48 hours.
- San Antonio port has programmed to open its operations as soon as possible, since some piers are canceled due to structural damage. STI (San Antonio International Terminal) remains closed and without electricity.
- Valparaiso port opened their facilities at terminals 1, 2, 3 and 6, this last one with several restrictions and special security measures. Terminals 4, 5 & 7 are not operating at the moment due to several structural damages.
- In the south, there is still no information regarding the operations at the ports of San Vicente and Lirquen due to the absence of basic services, communications. These port cities are completely devastated.
As a result, the Chilean line is modifying its vessels itineraries until further notice, temporarily canceling San Vicente and Lirquen port calls.
Singapore's APL also has updated its status in Chile as follows:
- Its warehouse complex in Comuna de Padahuel in Santiago is temporarily closed due to earthquake damage. The company is currently assessing the damage and will announce a date for re-opening when it has finalized its recovery plans.
- APL's port terminal in San Antonio is open but severely congested in the aftermath of the earthquake. This week's vessel call (APL Colima, VO43) omitted San Antonio and has been diverted.
- Container pick-up and delivery at the port of San Antonio continues with moderate delays.
- Its offices in Santiago are operating on a normal schedule. Phone service is returning to normal.
With damage to roads, ports and other infrastructure, recovery from the earthquake will take time.
