Asia to Europe Box Traffic Shows Steady Growth in December
Container volume moving between Asia and Europe and the Mediterranean achieved the largest monthly volumes of the year on both eastbound and westbound legs in December. On the westbound trade from Asia to Europe, box traffic for December totaling 1,105,194 TEUs, up 9.5% from the same period in 2009 while the eastbound trade from Europe to Asia, the volume surged 47.0% on year to 543,286 TEUs.
For the entire year, westbound container traffic fell 14.9% from the previous year to 11,501,682 TEUs while the eastbound volume suffered a modest decline of 4.5% year on year to 5,470,607 TEUs.
