Box Traffic via Trans-Siberian Railroad Falls 56% in 2009

Containerized exports transported via the Trans-Siberian Railroad totaled 267,620 TEUs in 2009, down 56% from the previous year, according to a report from the Trans-Siberian Traffic Coordinating Council.

Inbound traffic for 2009 tumbled 65%, a major slump of total transportation volumes on TSR.

In volumes of import and export shipments on Asia Pacific region route, Russia-Korea traffic was most severely affected with a year - on - year decline of 72 percent. Russia-Japan and Russia-China traffic also suffered a decline at 37% and 41% respectively.
