Inbound containers from the U.S. to 10 countries and regions in Asia plunged 25.6% year on year to 408,306 TEUs in December 2018, according to Descartes DataMyne. On an annual scale, a total of 5,939,802 TEUs were traded on the route, down 3.8%.

Looking at full-year imports in 2018 by destination, those to China diminished 25.7% to 2,068,195 TEUs, but managed to held the largest share. Coming in second place, those to South Korea swelled 2.4% to 643,093 TEUs. Containers bound for Japan sank 21.3% to 48,951 TEUs, finishing in third. The fourth largest destination was Taiwan, to which 585,949 TEUs were moved, up 28.8%. India imported 486,010 TEUs, up 27.1%, coming in fifth. India was followed by Indonesia, to which 397,704 TEUs were carried, up 26.9%.
