State-run Myanma Railways (MR) will form a third dry port in Monywa, Sagaing Region located in the north-western part of the country.

The dry port project is part of the inter-governmental agreements with the of the United Nations' Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

Under the project Myanmar will to construct eight dry ports along Asian railway routes, in Yangon, Mandalay, Monywa, Bago, Tamu, Muse, Mawlamyine, of which the Yangon and Mandalay dry ports have been completed so far. The dry ports will constructed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) system.

Myanma Railways is expected to invite local and foreign companies to submit bids for the construction of the Monywa dry- port in the near future.
